But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12
Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God
"Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" is a sermon written by Jonathan Edwards that was preached on July 8, 1741 in Enfield, Connecticut. It sparked a revival known as "The Great Awakening."
Jesus preached on the subject of hell more than any other person mentioned in the Bible. He spoke of hell as a literal place. Hell is not a metaphor - it's a lake of fire! See Matthew 10:28, Matthew 23:33 and Luke 16:22-24.
Jesus also said there is only one way to avoid going there. According to Jesus, the only way to avoid hell is to trust in Him to save you from it. (John 14:6, John 10:9-10) The path to salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. Acts 4:12 states, "There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved."
How You Can Be Reconciled to God
First, you must admit your spiritual need: "No one is righteous - not even one." (Romans 3:10) We can't make excuses or blame others and our circumstances for our actions. "For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard." (Romans 3:23)
"Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God." (1 Peter 3:18) Jesus paid the price for your sin. The Apostle Paul said, "My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die." (Galatians 2:20-21)
The word "repent" means "to change your direction." The Bible tells us, "Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away." (Acts 3:19) God commands us to repent. You must be willing to turn away from the things that displease God.
Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28) It is essential that you come to Jesus as you are. Don't try to "clean up your life" before you come to God. Instead, surrender your life to Him and allow Him to do the "cleansing."
Your decision to follow Christ means God has forgiven you and that you will spend eternity with Him. Until then, go out and be the Church. Welcome to the family of God!
And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul's message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth. (Acts 17:11)
